Tips to make your move as quick and efficient as possible

When moving locally, it is common for the work to be completed on an hourly rate and we are often asked how long the job is going to take.

This can be very difficult to estimate, especially over the phone, as each removal job is very different.

What we can do, however, is provide some do’s and don’ts to ensure that your move is completed as efficiently as possible saving you money!

DO – Make it clear which items are to be moved.

If you are leaving some items behind it is important to make it clear to the removalists which items are to be moved. If the removalist constantly needs to ask what to take and what to leave behind it can create confusion and adds significantly to the time taken to complete your move.

DON’T – Stack everything you want taken in one room.

While it might seem like a good idea to put everything you want moved into one room so the removalists will know what to take, it is not.

Your furniture needs to be loaded in to the truck in a particular order to ensure nothing is damaged in transit. If everything is stacked together in one room the removalist’s will most likely have to move everything out of the room before they start to enable them to pick and choose the items that they want. Your move will be delayed by double handling items.

DO – Pack small items into cartons.

Packing all your loose items can shave a lot of time off your move. It is a lot more efficient to make one trip to the truck with a carton than to make two or three trips juggling an armful of small items. The time saved on your removal will usually more than cover the cost of any removal boxes.

DON’T – Forget to tape up the bottom of your cartons.

Folding up the flaps will not hold the box together. It takes a lot longer to pick the contents of a box up off the floor than it would have to tape up the box up in the first place.

DO – Dismantle items before the removalists arrive.

While most items can be moved “as is” some will need dismantling prior to being moved. These can include beds and dressing table mirrors. If you are able to tackle these items yourself it can save you a significant amount of time on your move. If not, we are happy to do it for you.

DON’T – Loose the bolts for your bed.

DO – Have a good idea of where you want items placed in your new home

Having a plan can save you a lot of time on the delivery side of your move. Shifting furniture from room to room is both frustrating and time consuming. This is especially important if you live in an upstairs house or apartment as carrying items upstairs just to carry them down again can waste a lot of time.

DON’T – Disappear

We understand it is exciting moving into a new house. As tempting as it might be to float around in the pool while your furniture is unloaded, if we have to come and find you every time we are unsure where to place a piece of furniture, it can quickly add a lot of extra time to your move.
