Your Last Minute Checklist Before the Movers Arrive

Preparing for a move is something you ideally want to start at least a month in advance. While putting it off is tempting, you probably don't want to answer the door to our moving professionals in your pyjamas. Making a game plan not only saves you from this embarrassment, it also ensures that moving day goes as smoothly as possible.

When in Doubt, Throw It Out

Do you really need old newspaper clippings and books that you haven't looked at once since this decade began? We didn't think so. In fact, throwing away or donating anything you haven't used in the past six months is one of the most valuable moving tips we can offer you. You will be amazed at how much less you have to transport when you stick to this rule.

Take Inventory of What's Left

Now that you have whittled down your personal possessions, write down a description of everything you need to move along with its value for insurance purposes. Then make sure that you label each box clearly. While we're careful with all of your belongings, we'll take extra-special care of boxes labelled Nanna's Dishes or Junior's Primary School Art. We understand that sentimental items like these are irreplaceable.

Things We Would Really Appreciate

If there are any items you want to move yourself, just set them aside and let our moving service company know when we arrive. It would also be great if you would make sure there is a clear path for our removal company employees so no one trips and gets hurt. That's the last thing you need on moving day. Lastly, we recommend taking a photo of each room to facilitate setup at your new location.

One Last Check

If you had to take furniture apart so it fits through the door, make sure to pack the tools. You will also want to check your garage, yard, basement, and any storage spaces to ensure that you didn't miss anything when packing the first time. Since you will probably have last-minute additions to already-packed boxes, make sure you have packing tape and a marking pen handy.

Whew, that's a lot of hard work! However, it saves you and us time when moving day finally arrives. If you want to skip all of this preparation, just hire us to do it for you. Top End Removals provides full packing services to help busy people just like you.
